The Summit of the Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV) Campaign

His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde E.D Mnangagwa continues to lead the nation by example in stamping out the ongoing cholera outbreak. The President halted the session of cabinet this Tuesday 16 October 2018 to allow the vaccination team led by the Honourable Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Obadiah Moyo and the Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control Dr. Portia Mnangazira.

The President was vaccinated by the Minister of Health and Child Care after which the Chief Secretary and all Cabinet members present were vaccinated by the Principal Nursing Officer of the City of Harare Health Services Ms Phillomina Chitando and her team, the EPI Program Officer Ms Pauline Chigodo and Mr Kenneth Chindedza of the World Health Organisation.

The Government yesterday launched the first ever oral cholera vaccine so as to cut the cholera transmission cycle in Budiriro One.

This has come due to the alarming increase of cases within Harare and beyond.

Govt targets ZERO cholera deaths

 

 

 

 

Iranian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Ahmad Erfanian joined the Government to fight the cholera outbreak, yesterday at the Islamic Republic of Iran in Harare where he donated commodities worth $30 000.

The commodities include gumboots, dustcoats, gloves, antibacterial liquid hand wash, disinfectant liquid, knapsack sprayer, hygiene cotton wool and mutton cloth for purposes of cleaning treatment centres.

In a major milestone, public health centers in Zimbabwe benefited from the installation of solar systems, thanks to the Solar for Health Initiative of the Ministry of health and Child Care with its partner UNDP targeting all public health facilities across the country.

The Solar for Health Initiative supports health institutions to increase access to quality health services through the installation of solar energy photo-voltaic systems (PV), ensuring constant and cost-effective access to electricity, while also mitigating the impact of climate change and advancing multiple Sustainable Development Goals.

Cholera outbreak contained

 

Honorable Deputy Minister Dr John Mangwiro on behalf of the Hon Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Obadiah Moyo confirmed that the cholera outbreak has been contained.

“We have managed to contain the cholera outbreak; the cases being reported have dropped. This is due to the rapid response from the Government and partners,” he said.

He said there is a need to continue to increase the supply of clean water that has been already been established.
