VP Chiwenga officially opens Traditional Chinese Medicine Centre

Recently Honourable Vice President and Minister of Health and Child Care, (Rtd) General Dr Constantino Chiwenga officially opened the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) clinic at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

“We gather here today to witness the official opening of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) clinic. We are all excited that this beautiful health facility at present, through acupuncture, moxibustion and cupping, will offer diagnosis and treatment services,” said Dr Chiwenga.

The opening of the clinic will offer patients a choice to choose between modern and traditional medicines as provided for by the Health Professions Act.

“In this regard the clinic will provide a wider choice to patients seeking health services at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals as part of the medical pluralism enshrined in the Health Professions Act Chapter 27:19.

“Experience has shown that including TCM in a healthcare protocol improves outcomes for patients, for example, TCM can provide good support to patients who suffer from some conditions, particularly those who have chronic and degenerative diseases, e.g., low back pain. Consequently, the clinic will truly provide complementary health care services,” said Dr Chiwenga.

In conclusion, VP Chiwenga thanked those who made it possible for the putting up of the TCM clinic.

“Finally, I would like to say that I am honored to officially open the new TCM clinic today and I believe this new unit will be a great credit to our health services. I wish to congratulate everyone for helping to make it possible,” said VP Chiwenga.

Speaking on the same occasion, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Guo Shaochun said the opening of the centre will go a long way in improving the health delivery system in the country.

“This is another outcome of our joint efforts to promote the health of the Zimbabwean people. This shows the Chinese's determination to enhance health cooperation and fight against COVID-19 together with Zimbabwe. I believe the launch of the Center will hallmark a new chapter of our health cooperation,” said the Chinese Ambassador.

Zimbabwe also benefited from China through the donation of various medicines and other medical sundries towards combating COVID-19. The Chinese government also constructed Mahusekwa District Hospital in Mashonaland East Province which resulted in the community getting medical attention closer home.

“China has also been doing its best to help Zimbabwean people tide over the difficulties. Based on an incomplete count, a total of nearly 1.4 million masks, more than 51 thousand testing kits, 115 ventilators, and 141 thousand pieces of other PPEs have been donated by China so far.

“The completion of the Mahusekwa District Hospital, aided by the Chinese government, also known as the China-Zimbabwe Friendship Hospital, has been a timely help for the most vulnerable,” said Ambassador.
