Over the past few weeks, cases of COVID-19 in Zimbabwe were on a downward trend, but Government has directed security forces to enforce donning of face masks and maintaining social distancing, this was revealed by Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa during a post Cabinet briefing yesterday.
“With regard to Law and Order, Cabinet advises that in response to its earlier decision to further ease lockdown restrictions, security personnel will he directing greater attention towards the enforcement of critical COVID-19 containment measures such as physical distancing and the proper donning of face masks”, said Minister Mutsvangwa.
Citizens were also urged by Cabinet to continue observing all measures that have been put in place to combat the spreading of COVID-19.
“Cabinet noted that whereas Government’s response to COVID-19 has so far prevented a catastrophic spread of the outbreak, citizens are encouraged to guard against complacency and continue to abide by the protocols and measures currently being applied,” said the Minister of Information.
As schools are re-opening, flights resuming and the tourism sector opening its doors to travellers, the Ministry of Health and Child Care continues to offer technical guidance on the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures for various sectors as economic activities will be taking place.
