Ministry of Health and Child Care received a donation of 50 vials of Cisplatin chemotherapy drug from MaishaHealthFund and CassavaSmartech in partnership with Cancerserve Zimbabwe.
The medicines were handed over at a ceremony held at the Ministry’s Head Office in Harare yesterday.
Speaking at the ceremony on behalf of the Ministry, Acting Chief Director for Preventive Services Dr. Cremance Tshuma appreciated the donation saying that it will go a long way in helping the Ministry in the cancer treatment component where there have been financial challenges especially for common cancers like cervical cancer.
“This donation will assist us in the component of treatment of common cancers like cervical cancer where a lot of people have not been able to afford treatment due to financial constraints,” he said.
The Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr. John Mangwiro applauded the initiative by Maisha and Cancerserve saying that such drugs are most needed by the country at an affordable price.
“These cancer treatment drugs are most needed in the country and it is important to ensure that they are accessible to the populace at an affordable price,” said Dr. Mangwiro.
Cancerserve was launched in September 2018 with the aim of assisting cancer diagnosed patients. Maisha partnered with Cancerserve to contribute to this cause an initiative whereby Econet users subscribe to cancer tips for a certain fee by dialing *147#.
Revenue acquired from this MaishaHealth- Cancerserve initiative is then used to purchase medicines like the Cisplatin chemotherapy drugs handed over at the ceremony.
