New COVID 19 variant remain vigilant, President Mnangagwa

In recent weeks, the country has witnessed a decrease in the number and deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic leading to the downgrading of COVID-19 restrictive measures, but recently President Emmerson Mnangagwa reminded the nation to remain alert given that a new COVID-19 variant had been identified elsewhere.

“In the meantime, Government recognises that the threat of the pandemic still exists, especially in view of the recent identification of a new variant by the World Health Organisation. The nation must therefore remain vigilant,” said President Mnangagwa.

The Head of State informed the nation that law enforcement agencies will continue to enforce adherence to preventive measures while the Ministry of Health increases the delivery of vaccines to all parts of the country.

“The law enforcement agencies will continue to strengthen enforcement of all recommended COVID-19  regulations as the Ministry of Health and Child Care will continue to roll out COVID-19 vaccines to every corner of the country,” said the Head of State.

The President emphasised on getting vaccinated as well as adhering to COVID-19 preventive measures.

“Vaccination is a critical additional prevention measure. I, therefore, urge all of us to get vaccinated and adhere to all other recommended prevention measures such as washing our hands with soap and running water or sanitising; staying at home, social distancing and avoiding crowds,” concluded President Mnangagwa.

As of 8 September 2021, Zimbabwe had 125 931 confirmed cases, including 117 822 recoveries and 4 517 deaths. Those who had received their first COVID-19 vaccine jab were 2 782 103 people and 1 770 352 people got both doses.
